In 1884, this land became a German colony. After World War I, it was divided into two sectors governed by France and Britain. It was reunited as an independent nation in 1961. In its current government, a president is elected who has very extensive power. There is an elected parliament as well. Although there have been some issues with corruption, the Republic of Cameroon has had more governmental stability than most African countries, and has enjoyed positive development.
