Sending warm greetings and much gratitude from Chwele, Kenya, for all your support especially through the construction of the Girls Dormitory in Uganda and the recent Ambulance giving campaign which included our Annual African Dinner Fundraiser. The Ambulance arrived in Kenya last week from Japan. Paul and Joel Bwayo are in the process of getting it registered, outfitted with ambulance equipment and supplies, and inspected for accreditation by the Kenya Department of Health. Let’s hear from Grace who is leading the trip:
Chwele Trip Updates
Medical Trip and Ambulance Program
We are happy to announce that our first group has arrived in Chwele, Kenya and thearrival of the medical ambulance !! Last week, Paul, Carol, and Grace met with the Bungoma Rotary Club. They are a club of 12 members with an amazing community service impact! In June, we will participate in a tree planting ceremony and also the Rotarac Charter Ceremony.
All 5 of us (Paul, Nora, Carol, Delores, and Grace) are robust healthy and into our second week of training 22 community health volunteers (CHVs) in the Chwele area after visiting Lugulu Friends Mission Hospital. Nora J. Percival, assisted by Carol VanDomelen, is empowering this team with information and practical tools to teach community members preventive health techniques in the areas of diarrhea, hypertension, and perinatal mother and child care. The program is going very well, and the volunteers are excited about what they are learning.
They realize more than ever that the work they are doing is the gateway to the prevention of disease, access of healthcare services, and therefore better health for their communities. In the course of their careers, these 22 CHVs will care for about 20,000 people, so this training has the potential to make a long-term and positive impact on the lives of many people in rural Kenya.
Once again, thank you and please stay tuned for more exciting news updates in a couple of weeks !
