In partnership with White Salmon-Bingen Rotary Club, Harambee Centre is delighted to announce the ground breaking of the Sikusi Community Center construction in the Chwele area. The center will provide a peaceful, productive, and sustainable space for the Najijali teen monthers who graduate from our Vocational Skill Building Program (sewing, hairdressing, and beauty). This November, a team of volunteers from the USA (WA, NC, and SC) will join the Najijali students of cohort 3 for graduation celebrations at Makindu Advanced Vocational Training College in Kenya. While in Kenya, the volunteers will join the Chwele community in their construction efforts of the center which will be built from 6 shipping containers. All project management and technical leadership are provided by the hard-working Grace Resources for Community Action team (GRECA). If visas are granted, we will meet this GRECA leadership team at our 25th Anniversary Celebration this October in Portland, Oregon! Fundraising efforts are still ongoing for the cost of procuring the 6 containers at $5,000 each. White Salmon-Bingen Rotary Club has so far raised 60% of the total cost of the whole construction project - Thank you to Tammy Kaufman's family and her amazing Rotary club!
