Mental Health

Teen mothers often struggle with mental health as they try to cope with being a young, uneducated parent with limited to no support or opportunities.

Pressure comes from all sides; stigmas related to teen pregnancy, being bullied by peers, being rejected by their families and communities. Some also suffer trauma from pregnancies resulting from rape or incest making it even more difficult to cope.

Addressing both social and psychological issues is essential to helping girls change their path in life. Helping them to believe in themselves and know they can succeed is key to instilling positive mental health.

With the Najijali Project, girls will be empowered to take control of their lives. They will see if they work hard, they can be productive members of society. They will see their potential and that they are capable of supporting their family. The structure, mentorship, and community involvement will help to instill confidence for the girls to mature and become financially independent.
