JENNIFER HUNTER.

Jennifer has been teaching middle- and high-school English language arts for 14 years. She currently teaches at Mountainside High School in the Beaverton school district. From 2009 to 2019, Jennifer and her husband lived overseas, teaching middle- and high-school English in international schools. Five of those years were spent in west Africa, in Cameroon and Ghana. Prior to her entering teaching, Jennifer worked in public health as a researcher and project manager in the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health at The University of Arizona. Her work there focused on collaborating with communities to design and implement grant-funded community-based projects that promoted awareness and prevention of chronic disease in residents along the U.S.-Mexico border, and in American Indian communities. Her experiences have led her to a greater understanding of how successful collaboration is achieved through the development of positive working relationships with community members. She is excited to be a part of Harambee’s exchanges and projects in East African communities because of her passion for and belief in education, awareness, and intercultural collaboration.
